Ginny

Alex's babysitter, Ginny, has moved away.  She has been a big part of his life since he was born!  We will miss her so much and wish her every good thing in her home.

Abstract Art Symbols: What Do You See?

Behind the scenes in my class on Skillshare , my workshop students are discussing symbols in abstract art.  I wanted to share with you a glimpse into these discussions.  (To see each student's project in detail, check out our Project Gallery .) AMOEBAS Udeshi identified with the biological shapes in Kandinsky's Capricious Forms from 1937, seen below.  The amoeba-like subject matter dovetails with Udeshi's desire to communicate relaxing and organic themes.  To achieve the proper mood while painting, Udeshi listens to Erik Satie's Gymnopedie no. 1 .   ----------------------------------- CREATURES Rebecca viewed the same reference work as a springboard for her "little blob creatures" in her sketchbook.  Her painting (beside the sketchbook, pictured below) reflects the playful movement that Kandinsky captured in his work.   ----------------------------------------------------------- JAPANESE TRADITIONAL CULTURE Students on Skillsh...

January Artomat Little Inspirations series

In January 2020, I sent off another series of hand painted ornaments to Artomat . Each wooden round is cut from either maple or oak wood. Every ornament has an original watercolor flower,  a vintage stamp (usually international),  and an inspiring word or phrase because these are from my Little Inspirations series:  floral fun + an inspiring word. New floral watercolor class on Skillshare

Happy Holidays I hope you have had a very good year. I am really looking forward to 2019, and hoping it will have not any hurricanes or record rainfall levels in it. (We have had a hard year in NC, USA in 2018, and this is why I have had to delay my new class releases -- forgive me!) New Watercolor Class Today is Christmas (Dec. 25), and as a special gift to you, I have uploaded a new class that's totally different from my abstract art classes. In this class, you will learn a simple method to paint a flower in watercolors. Then we will outline the flower and add a hand-lettered word of inspiration.   I paint these flowers for Art-o-mat and sell them all over the world.
